Political Shocker: Nyeri Governor Warms Up to Ruto, Shaking Gachagua’s CampThe political scene in Mt. Kenya has taken an unexpected turn after Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, a close associate of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, openly embraced President William Ruto during his visit to the county.
Kahiga’s move caught Gachagua and his allies off guard, as he had been one of the deputy president’s most loyal supporters. Ruto’s visit was seen as a strategic effort to solidify his influence in the region, and Kahiga’s warm reception signaled a major shift in political alignments.
Speaking at the event, Kahiga praised Ruto’s leadership and assured him of Nyeri’s support. “Mr. President, Nyeri County is ready to work with you. We welcome you wholeheartedly,” he declared, hinting at a shift in allegiance.
Gachagua’s supporters were left disappointed, viewing Kahiga’s actions as an act of betrayal. “Kahiga was Gachagua’s right-hand man. This is a huge letdown,” lamented James Mwangi, a resident. Mary Wanjiru echoed similar sentiments, saying, “We believed they were united, but now it seems everyone is pursuing their own interests.”
However, some residents defended Kahiga’s decision, arguing that governance should focus on progress rather than political feuds. “Politics should be about development, not personal battles. If working with Ruto benefits our county, so be it,” remarked businessman Samuel Njoroge.
Political analyst David Kamau warned that Kahiga’s defection could weaken Gachagua’s grip on Mt. Kenya politics. “If more of his allies shift, his influence will diminish,” he noted.
Interestingly, Gachagua has remained silent, leaving many wondering about his next move. Will he fight to reclaim control, or will he change his strategy? Only time will tell.
