Lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi has said that President William Ruto’s government, after the recent cabinet appointments, is largely seen as a Government of National Unity (GNA).This means that his government is made up of a mix of political parties, including both his allies and those from the opposition. The composition of the government reflects the need for political unity and cooperation to ensure smooth governance and to address the needs of all Kenyans, no matter their political background.

One of the biggest groups in Ruto’s government is Azimio La Umoja, which is the opposition coalition. This group now holds a significant 59% of the positions in the cabinet. This large share shows that Ruto is serious about including opposition parties in his government, which is important for ensuring peace and unity after a highly contested election. By giving Azimio such a big role, Ruto is trying to bring together different parts of the country and make sure that no group feels left out.

The second largest group in the government is the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which is the political party that President Ruto belongs to. UDA Asili holds 31% of the cabinet positions. Although this is a smaller share than Azimio, it still shows that Ruto’s own party has a strong influence in the government. This reflects the fact that UDA played a major role in helping Ruto win the presidency, and his supporters are still important to his leadership.

The third group in the government is a coalition made up of smaller parties like the Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya. These parties make up about 7% of the cabinet. Even though they are smaller, their inclusion shows that Ruto values their support and wants to keep them engaged in the governance process.

Finally, there is a small percentage of cabinet positions (3%) held by other parties or individuals not directly linked to the main political groups. This shows that Ruto’s government is inclusive, even allowing space for non-partisan voices.
