The National Assembly has approved the nomination of former IEBC chairperson Ahmed Issack Hassan as the Chairperson of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

In a statement on Wednesday, November 27, the National Assembly approved the nomination of Hassan alongside seven other members of the IPOA board.

The seven members approved by Parliament include Anne Wanjiku Mwangi, Dr. Micah Onyiego Nyakego, Boniface Kipkemoi Saamti, Dr. Annette Mudola Mbogoh, Joghn Muchiri Nyaga, Kenwilliams Nyakomitah and Jackline Lukalo Mwenesi.

While announcing the nomination of the former IEBC chair as the Chairperson of IPOA, State House spokesperson Mohamed Hussein stated Hassan has 30 years of experience as a legal practitioner.

“The nominee is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with 30 years of experience as a legal practitioner and consultant in various countries including Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Namibia, and Afghanistan,” read part of the statement by Hussein.
