In a live interview on K24 TV today, nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has addressed the growing concerns over her financial status and the ongoing auction drama. Speaking candidly, she said, “Yesterday, I got people wanting to raise money for me. They think I am broke, I am not broke but thank you for your concern.”
Nyamu expressed frustration over the media attention and social media discussions regarding her financial situation, specifically after news broke about a court-ordered auction of her property over alleged rent arrears. She emphasized that while she could not discuss her personal matters in public, she was fully aware of the claims being made about her.
The auctioning drama began when a Nairobi court granted an order allowing auctioneers, with police assistance, to seize household items from Nyamuâs residence in Runda, over rent arrears totaling Ksh 1.25 million. The order, granted on November 11, 2024, was part of a prolonged legal dispute with her landlord, James Gichuru Kirubi, who had earlier pursued a claim for Ksh 385,000 in unpaid rent.
Despite the court’s order, Nyamu denied the accusations, calling them malicious. She explained that she had an agreement with the landlord to purchase the house and that part of her deposit was converted into payment. Nyamu vowed to challenge the court’s decision, insisting that the auction was unfair.
In a separate post on her X account, Nyamu dismissed the allegations with a touch of humor. She laughed off the claims, saying, “Unajua kwanini nacheka. Kuna colleague ameniuliza akiwa very concerned if I’m into casino gambling ati pesa inaenda wapi. Tulia nitawapigia story.” This statement stirred up a lot of reactions online, with one user accusing her of living a flashy lifestyle despite her financial troubles. Nyamu responded by admitting, âNilifutwa job nikaskia aibu ya kuwashow.â
The controversy surrounding Nyamuâs lifestyle has sparked much debate on social media. Many online users have questioned how she funds her luxurious trips and extravagant lifestyle. In the interview, Nyamu blasted people she claimed were behind the media campaigns to tarnish her image, but refused to go into further detail about the individuals involved.
As the legal battle continues and the auction process moves forward, Nyamu remains defiant. She maintains that she is not broke and is committed to challenging the claims made against her. While some Kenyans have shown sympathy, others have criticized her for her handling of the situation. The unfolding drama continues to capture the attention of social media users, with mixed reactions pouring in.
