Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has made controversial claims about the political relationship between former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
According to Alai, Uhuru had a plan to regain power for the Kikuyu community through the 2022 elections. He alleged that Raila Odinga was not Uhuru’s preferred President post-2022.
Robert Alai alleges that Uhuru Kenyatta saw an opportunity to regain the presidency through a back door strategy. He claims that Uhuru was not genuinely supporting Raila Odinga as a future president, but rather saw him as a tool to help achieve his own goal.
Alai claimed that Uhuru wanted to use Raila’s influence to eventually bring back the presidency to a Kikuyu leader.
“He saw a chance to get back the Presidency in 2022 through the backdoor and by having his chosen person who was not Baba, Baba was his tool to get Presidency, Baba was not Uhuru’s preferred President sometimes we get it wrong. Uhuru saw Baba as the quickest opportunity to get the Presidency back to the Kikuyu community again. Despite not being disciplined enough to use the State resources to support Baba.” Robert Alai claimed
Alai went ahead and credited Raila Odinga for the achievements that Uhuru Kenyatta made between 2018 and 2022. He said that between 2018 and 2022, Raila showed Uhuru how to make impactful leadership decisions. Alai gave examples of major projects that he believes Raila influenced, such as the construction of the Nairobi Expressway, the rehabilitation of the Kisumu-Nairobi Railway line, and various road projects in Murang’a County.
He claimed that these projects can be directly traced back to Raila Odinga’s input and leadership skills.
“From 2018 to 2022, Baba showed him how to make an impactful leadership and eventually the expressway, rehabilitating the Kisumu-Nairobi Railway line, the few projects like roads in Murang’a, you can trace it back to Raila.” Alai said.
