Nandi County Governor Hillary Kimeli Sang, the younger brother of Stephen Sang, has been implicated by county officials in a scheme involving ghost workers, who have been receiving substantial salaries each month.
Hillary, a KDF officer, appears on the county’s payroll, receiving a monthly salary of Ksh. 123,000 despite not being employed by the county; his salary is funded by the national government.
Additionally, he has secured a Ksh. 5.9 million interest-free loan from the county, which he can repay at his convenience.
This situation reflects a broader pattern of corruption in Nandi County, one of the most underdeveloped regions in Kenya. The county suffers from poor roads and a lack of medical facilities, with those that do exist often lacking essential supplies, while the governor and his family continue to embezzle funds. This is also happening in several counties.
