In recent weeks, the troubling rise of kidnappings and murders has become a serious concern for many communities.

The latest victim, a 17-year-old man, was taken and killed after his family could not pay a ransom of Ksh 280,000.

The tragedy unfolded when the victim’s uncle, Nasri Ali Kitali, received a distressing call during which he heard his nephew being beaten by the kidnappers.

In a desperate moment, the young man shared his fears for his life in a final call by telling his uncle that kidnappers were killing him after his family failed to submit a Ksh 280,000 ransom.

The kidnapping followed a chaotic encounter with the police.

According to Police Commander Simon Maigwa, the young man and his cousin were fleeing from law enforcement during a drug raid.

In the confusion, they became separated, leaving the victim vulnerable to criminals who later demanded the Ksh 280,000 ransom.

As the family deals with their loss, questions arise about the issues that allow such kidnapping to continue.
