Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka, along with other leaders have reportedly held a meeting amid rising tensions within the Azimio la Umoja Coalition. Key figures present included Jeremiah Kioni (Jubilee), Peter Munya (PNU), James Orengo (ODM), Gideon Moi (KANU) and Fred Okongo. This meeting follows recent divisions over the formation of a government of national unity especially after ODM joined the government.

Earlier meeting Azimio had before today’s meeting sharp differences emerged. Raila’s supporters favored joining the government to stabilize the country and reform institutions like the IEBC. However, Kalonzo’s faction opposed the idea without specific conditions. They demanded a national conversation and accountability for police actions against Gen Z protestors calling for the prosecution of responsible officers.

The meeting’s atmosphere turned tense, with some of Raila’s key allies leaving early, showing discontent. The situation worsened when goons disrupted the press briefing, preventing Kalonzo from reading a prepared statement. Later after president Ruto appointed ODM Members into cabinet more cracks developed where former Azimio running mate Martha Karua left the coalition. Azimio through kalonzo later made statement and vowed to lead the opposition without ODM.

The meeting today comes in big shock to kenyans, Kenyans now speculate that the coalition plans now to repair the cracks and keep pushing before 2027 polls.
