The main suspect in the disturbing string of killings in Kware, Nairobi, has been caught by police. John Mwangi, 32, was arrested on Sunday night after people in the area gave police information.
Mwangi, who has lived in the area for a year, is said to have admitted to the killings when he was first questioned by police. Mwangi’s arrest is a major step forward in the investigation of a string of murders that have been terrorizing the Kware community since the beginning of 2023.
All of the victims were women, and they were found badly hurt in private parts. Under a lot of pressure, the local police stepped up their efforts to catch the criminal, which led to Mwangi’s arrest.
It’s easier to understand how horrible the killings were now that the suspect has admitted to them. One police officer who is working on the case says that Mwangi is called a “psychopath” because he was so cool while telling the police about the crimes. The officer also said that Mwangi explained how he lured his victims and then killed them with frightening accuracy.
Following the arrest, people in Kware have felt both relieved and shocked. “We’ve been scared because we don’t know who will be the next victim.” A shop owner in the area, Mary Wanjiru, said, “I’m glad the police have finally caught the person who did it.”
Leaders in the area have asked for more security steps to stop this kind of thing from happening again. John Kamau, an MP for the area, called for more cops and better lighting in neighborhoods to keep people safe. People in the neighborhood are still dealing with the trauma of the killings, even though the arrest has brought some peace.
The cops are still telling people to be careful and report anything that seems fishy. The investigation is still going on, and Mwangi will likely be charged in court later this week. The police are also looking into whether he has anything to do with other unsolved crimes in the area.
