Public servants exceeding 60 years have been directed to proceed for retirement without extension of service. All nonessential travels by state and public officers have been suspended.
The head of state also said no public servants shall participate in public harambees going forward. Money set aside for the purchase of state vehicles have also been suspended and recalled.
He said staffs currently employed by the affected corporations will be transferred to ministries and other state agencies.
“The last two weeks have been so difficult for us where lives have been lost and properties destroyed. I extend my sympathies to those who lost their lives, to the mothers, fathers siblings, and relatives my deepest sympathies and condolences to all of you. The government will support all those who have lost lives and those injured,” stated Ruto
“The funds used to fund the office of the first lady, deputy first lady and office of the Chief Cabinet Secretary will be removed. confidential budgets including that of my office have been removed. Henceforth public servants who have attained retirement age of 60 are directed to proceed on terminal leave,” he stated
According to Ruto, he had appointed a special task force to audit public debts in the country and will come out with a report soon.
“I am happy that we are having a conversation about jobs for young people, taxation, and debt. I make these statements as a response to what we have been discussing. Today I have appointed independent task force to carry out an audit into our public debt and will come back to us with a report. The consequence of withdrawing Finance Bill has been felt and our treasury team has been assessing the impacts of either reducing the budget or continuing borrowing,” he stated
He said they will look for money to hire JSS teachers and intern doctors, regain the fertilizer subsidy programs and settle debts owed to farmers in the coffee sector among other projects.
Ruto said he is happy that they are now having a conversation about issues affecting Kenyans.
