High Court Judge Lawrence Mugambi has ruled that the deployment of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) during the anti-Finance Bill protests was illegal, emphasizing that such deployment must adhere strictly to constitutional provisions.
“The court finds the deployment of KDF in anti-Finance Bill protests illegal; military personnel are trained to use force, not civilian interactions,” Justice Mugambi stated, as reported by The Standard newspaper.
The ruling came after hearing the case filed by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), which sought to block the military’s deployment to assist the police.
