A few Samburu women have reported that soldiers from the British Army training unit (BATUK) have sexually assaulted them.

They have bemoaned their financial hardships and public humiliation since the alleged troops left, leaving them in charge of their children.

The government has assigned a parliamentary committee to look into the situation and assist the women in getting justice.

The women demanded a prompt investigation to guarantee that justice be done, claiming that they were left with lifelong wounds.

Generica Namoru spoke about her experience of being sexually attacked, and having a child five years ago with a man, from the British Army training unit (BATUK) in an interview with Citizen TV.

She related how, upon disclosing her pregnancy to her purported attacker, he assured her that he would take her and the child with him when he left the service.

She hasn’t heard from him since, though. She made an unsuccessful attempt to contact BATUK for assistance. She added that in order to meet her child’s demands, she must work even harder.

“My friends make fun of me and ask me why, even though I’m with a British man, I still have problems. Even if it hurts a lot, I keep going.”

Naomi, a 17-year-old who was born as a result of sexual assault and abuse, is another victim. “I would like to know who my father is, even though I don’t know him. Life has turned into a real struggle, Naomi remarked.

She said that things had been quite difficult for her since her mother died away. She is totally dependent on the residents of the community to gather money for fees and rent.

What was said concerning incidents by the parliamentary committee? The parliamentary committee tasked with looking into the purported crimes pledged, to find the people responsible and see that justice was done.

The National Assembly Defense Chairman, Nelson Koech, stated, “We will engage BATUK, and inform them to tell soldiers from the training unit to take responsibilities for the children they left in this community.”
