Authorities in Bungoma are investigating circumstances under which two people were shot dead in a robbery incident in the town.
The shooting happened at a general merchant shop which three thugs had raided on Tuesday night in Musikoma area. The victims included one of the thugs and a businesswoman.
According to police, the thug was killed after his colleague shot the owner of the shop. Reports indicate that the gangsters went to the said shop and asked the owner to deposit money to their mobile phone numbers.
And as the owner responded to them, one of the thugs grabbed the mobile phone from the owner prompting his wife to raise alarm in a bid to help him.
In the process, one of the gangsters opened fire and shot at the woman, killing her instantly. In the attempt to shoot her for a second time, the thug mistakenly shot his colleague who was standing behind the woman, killing him on the spot. The other two thugs grabbed Sh300,000 from the shop and fled on a motorbike.
Police arrived at the scene some minutes later and recovered a mobile phone and eight spent cartridges. The crime scene was processed and the two bodies moved to mortuary for postmortem.
