Former senatorial aspirant and Mt Kenya leader, Kabando wa Kabando, has broken his silence on the arrest of Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o. In a bold statement, Kabando asserts his unwavering commitment to not defend the corrupt, while raising pointed concerns about the timing and motivations behind Nyakang’o’s arrest.
Kabando starts by emphasizing his principled stance against corruption, making it clear that constitutional governance agencies should be supported in executing their mandates. However, he expresses skepticism regarding the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), alleging a questionable motive in arresting Nyakang’o for a complaint dating back to 2016, despite her clearance as Controller of Budget in 2020.
The former senatorial aspirant accuses the DCI of engaging in what he terms a “hatchet job,” insinuating a potential political agenda behind the arrest. With Nyakang’o and other suspects now facing charges before a judge, Kabando urges a commitment to due process, emphasizing the importance of the Kenyan judiciary in untangling the complexities of the case.
While Kabando refrains from politicizing graft cases, he points to a concerning connection between Nyakang’o’s actions as Controller of Budget and what he describes as President Ruto’s “rotten kleptocracy.” Kabando implies that Nyakang’o’s exposure of serious Treasury/Consolidated Fund thefts may have made her a target in a larger political game.
Kabando urges Nyakang’o to “spill the beans” and reveal any pertinent information related to corruption within the government. He advocates for a fair trial, emphasizing that Nyakang’o should either be judged guilty or set free based on the evidence presented.
As the case unfolds, Kabando wa Kabando’s statement adds a layer of intrigue, inviting the public to question the political dynamics at play and reinforcing the importance of upholding due process in the face of corruption allegations.
