Kathiani Member of Parliament Robert Mbui is worried for Controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o, following her recent revelations about financial improprieties within the government.

This follows Nyakang’o’s decision to bring to light the National Treasury’s alleged over-budgeting of her salary by three times, suggesting that the same is happening to the salaries of other State officers.

Mbui, who belongs to the opposition, says that Nyakang’o might now be a marked lady, and might be harmed for exposing the culprits, especially those in the Treasury ministry.

He has at the same time lauded Nyakang’o for her courage in unveiling potential financial misconduct.

“I think that the controller of budget has, for the first time, lifted the veil on some very major issues that have been happening in the country. We have always heard of budgeted corruption but none of them has ever come out cleanly and told us what is really going on,” he said on Monday morning.

He made the remarks during an appearance on Citizen TV’s Daybreak Show.

He added that it is time parliament began scrutinizing numbers presented by the Treasury to rid the country of such cases.

“Parliament has failed us in this case. Yes, this should have been flagged at the Committee stage. However, when castigating parliament, let us not do it wholesome. It is important to interrogate what individual members say,” he said.
