How Karen Nyamu went against dad’s advice
The politician was on a radio interview where she also talked about what she did with her first salary.
“Mshahara wangu wa kwanza nilikuwa nanunua vitu kidogo kidogo. Nakumbuka nikiambia baba yangu nataka kuhama, maanake nilipoteza mama yangu nikiwa university, alinipeleka Nakumatt Lifestyle akanichukulia vitu kadhaa, sufuria, akanilipia, akanirelease. Akanimabia, Karen, mwanaume asiwahi kulipia rent, sijawahi sahau, (With my first salary, I used to buy things. I remember telling my dad that I am moving out since I lost my mum while on campus. He took me to Nakumatt Lifestyle, and paid for things and advised me to never let a man pay my rent, I have never forgotten),” she said.
The city lawyer vowed to pass down the same message to her children and recalled a moment when she went against her dad’s advice.
“Aliniambia ukikosa rent, wewe rudi nyumbani. Usiwahi kubali mwanume si bwana yako akulipie rent. Ilifika time, nikakiuka hio advice, lakini mimi mwenyewe nilijichuna maskio. Na ni vizuri saa zingine kutest kaadvice. Nilijua kwa nini mtu hafai kufanya hivyo. But Mubaba, haikuwa about rent. Ilikuwa KSh 35,000. Which is very little juu inakukatia freedom, (He told me if I don’t have rent, I should move back home. And to never allow a man who is not my hubby to pay rent. It got to a time I went against his advice but I learnt a lesson. The man paid my rent, it was KSh 35,000 which was little for my freedom),” she added.
She revealed the man paid her rent in Westlands for two months and said she loves her independence that when she sees it being tampered with, she revolts.
