Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has clarified that he is still the Secretary General of Kenya Young Parliamentarian Association (KYPA), days after alleging to have stepped down.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the lawmaker defended his initial contradictory statement about stepping down noting that he made the statement in order to identify his potential enemies and those who were against him in the Association.
The lawmaker reiterated that he would give new directives to the KYPA, adding that he was still at the helm of the association.
“I want to give my position on the KYPA status as it is, the speaker did make a communication about new officials of KYPA. This has been rendered useless, balderdash, nonsensical, gibberish and it has caused a lot of consternation, discomposure and discombobulation of spirit.” Owino said in his lead statement.
“As the secretary General of KYPA. The other day I said I resigned, I wanted to test and see my enemies in KYPA. I wanted to see those who could start opposing me in KYPA.”
The vocal parliamentarian further claimed that the Registrar of Societies wrote a letter to KYPA terming the new appointments at the association unrecognized and deemed them illegal.
He further dubbed the new appointments as a coup, threatening to expel the legislators without trial.
“The MPs who Participated in the failed KYPA coup will be expelled without trial. They will never be members of KYPA.”
As recorded by the Kenyans.co.ke, on Monday, September 4, the ODM legislator stressed that he had stepped down from the role to give other interested politicians a chance to take up the position.
The former Chairperson of Students Organization of Nairobi University (SONU) stated that following his decision to vacate the position, he would be focusing on other crucial issues which he did not reveal.
“I stepped down, Hon. Mark Mwenje also stepped down as Deputy Secretary General since he is now Minority Whip and Hon Hezena Lemaletian stepped down as Treasurer and we gave these opportunities to other members,” the lawmaker stated in his previous video addressing the controversies in KYPA leadership.
