President William Ruto took on the role of chauffeur on Monday in anticipation of the opening of Africa’s inaugural Climate Summit. Ruto officially inaugurated the Africa Climate Summit on Monday, a five-day event being held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.
This summit, championed by Ruto, is dedicated to addressing the growing impact of climate change and its associated costs, with a particular focus on Africa. It aims to explore ways to assist African nations vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change in managing these challenges.
Furthermore, the summit will provide a platform to shape and influence commitments, pledges, and outcomes, ultimately leading to the formulation of the Nairobi Declaration. The event is expected to draw over 30,000 delegates, including more than 25 heads of state and government.
Earlier reports from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had indicated that 23 African Heads of State and Government had confirmed their attendance in writing for the Africa Climate Summit. However, according to Gabriel Oguda, only 15 Presidents have actually attended the summit.
“Last week, we were told a total of 23 African Heads of State & Gov’t had confirmed attendance (in writing) at the Africa Climate Summit. The official photo is in, so let’s take the roll call.” Wrote Gabriel Oguda on Twitter.
