The government has reaffirmed its resolve to combat violent extremism in the wake of increased terrorism threats in the Northern and Coastal region.
Speaking during a security meeting in Lamu’s Witu area, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki stated that the government will strengthen the capacity of security agencies in their fight against terrorism by providing adequate resources and modern equipment to support their mission.
The Interior CS highlighted that the government had allocated a paltry Sh20 billion to modernize the country’s security apparatus.
Reports indicate that the officers were ambushed by the militants, who had been lying in wait for them. The militants are said to have used sophisticated weapons including landmines, machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades to overpower the security forces. The attack was so severe that it even caused a chopper that was sent to evacuate the injured to crash, killing two more officers.
While reacting to this incident, Kenyans who took to their different social media accounts to express their opinion on this topic have sent their condolences to the family and friends of the Kenya defense forces soldiers who were Killed in the operation.According to the reports given by most Kenyans, they claimed that it is so unfortunate that the deceased died in such a manner thanking them for their work.
