The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been unable to attract a sufficient number of applications for the top administrative positions it has been attempting to fill since December of last year.
Even after re-advertising and extending deadlines multiple times, a total of 1,001 vacancies have remained empty with no applications in the last six months.
Chief principals, principals, deputy principals, headteachers, deputy headteachers, senior masters, and senior teachers are needed to fill vacancies in institutions that lack administrators.
Details are emerging as to why teachers are unwilling to apply for the aforementioned posts.
According to our source, Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) teachers did not apply because of the following five reasons: underfunding in schools, they claim that the position comes with pressure and challenges, delocalization affects many after getting the positions, one can be taken to hardship areas in case of disciplinary actions, and they are aware that they will be removed from their preferred stations.
