Vybz Kartel, the renowned Jamaican dancehall artist, has spent over a decade behind bars following his incarceration in 2011. This leaves behind a decade and a half left in order for the musician to attain parole as per his initial prison sentence.
While his music continues to resonate with fans around the world, there is curiosity about how the artist’s life has unfolded within the confines of prison walls.
When it Comes to music, there is no doubt that Jamaican dancehall artist Vybz Kartel (also known as Adidja Palmer) is amongst the top coveted artists to have graced the industry.
While it appeared that the said artist was still garnering airwaves for his multiple music published on YouTube, sources have revealed that Vybz is suffering from a serious disease that has left him with a swollen neck and face.
According to Nairobi News, Vybz Kartel’s lawyer opened up on the artist’s deteriorating physical condition, which he attributed to being held under solitary confinement for almost 23 hours a day.
The lawyer also reiterated that the musician is also battling a life-threatening autoimmune disease and two heart conditions.
According to Mayo Clinic, Graves’ disease is an autoimmune disorder that affects the delicate balance of the thyroid gland’s functioning. It arises when the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland, disrupting its normal function.
This autoimmune response triggers the production of thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulins (TSIs), which bind to the thyroid cells and stimulate excessive thyroid hormone production. Consequently, the body’s metabolic processes are thrown off balance, leading to hyperthyroidism.
As per Cleveland Clinic, The Treatment for Graves’ disease aims to reduce thyroid hormone production and alleviate symptoms. Anti-thyroid medications, such as methimazole or propylthiouracil, are commonly prescribed to inhibit the thyroid’s excessive hormone production.
In severe cases, surgical removal of the thyroid gland (thyroidectomy) may be necessary.
While no official response has been published by the prison’s Medical doctor, what are your thoughts on this matter? Leave a comment, let’s keep the discussion going.
