Maribe responds to claims of being on suicide watch, heavy drinking – Nairobi News”/>
A suspect in the slaying of businesswoman Monica Kimani, Jacque Maribe, has justified herself by claiming that she had no reason to wish her dead.
Maribe admitted to not knowing Monica to the trial judge Grace Nzioka. She said that she had only recently gotten to know her after reading about her passing in the news.
“That was the first time I heard of her and saw her photo. I’ve never spoken to Jowie about Monica, and I’ve never met her either,” the woman claimed.
She described her movements on the day of the alleged incident to the court. She said that she left her Royal Park home to go to work. Her then-boyfriend Jowie drove her to RMS at approximately 8 am.
She was at RMS all day long, the court was told, staying until 9.30 p.m.As Maribe was leaving, she allegedly ran into Mike Sonko’s crew; who was supposed to be at a Jeff Koinange interview.
At ten o’clock, Maribe headed for Q Lounge; a dining establishment next to Citizen TV. She used her phone to watch the interview until the battery died.
She said that her coworker Monica Kiragu alerted her that Jowie was seeking her when she arrived at Q Club at approximately 11.30 p.m.
She explained, “Since my phone was off, he used Monica’s number to hunt for me. Later, according to Maribe, she told Jowie over the phone that he would be joining Sonko and one Anita Thumbi at club 4040. Maribe provided an unworn statement, so the prosecution did not question her at her deposition.
