Defense Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale now reveals that he deliberately relinquished his position as the Majority leader of the National Assembly back in 2020 just in order to protect his loyalty with the then Deputy President William Ruto. In an interview with Spice FM on Thursday 11th May, the former Garissa Township MP recounted how former President Uhuru Kenyatta called him, demanding to know his allegiance in the face of Uhuru-Ruto fallout.

According to Duale, his decision greatly shocked President Uhuru and he (Uhuru) was dumbfounded for some time after Duale decided to side with Ruto. According to the vocal politician, he told off President Uhuru how Ruto is a close ally even to his family members and that his Islam religion would also not advocate for such level of betrayal.

Duale consequently openly gave up his position as the majority leader, an event that he claims left Uhuru Kenyatta speechless and surprised.

“I told him Ruto has very close ties with my family, has never offended me and has immensely contributed to the growth of my hometown…he couldn’t believe it.” Duale recalled. (Watch video from minute 36:35)

This confession comes at a time when the Defense Cabinet Secretary is expected to launch his book dubbed “For The Record” which has highlighted several decisive instances in the Kenyan political space. Duale argued that his book would be an inspiration for generations to come as it has widely captured major events in Kenya’s political history. Among some other events captured by Duale in his book is how the Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka was almost backed up for the 2013 Presidency by both Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto before fate later took another course. The 32-chapter book is to be launched today on Thursday 11th May and President Ruto among other politicians and technocrats will grace the event.
