Bandit hideouts in Baringo County’s Tandare Valley were bombed by security troops. The assault, according to locals close to the valley, occurred around 6 am. To drive criminals out of their hiding places earlier this week, the government used heavy artillery, additional soldiers, and air and ground operations.
On March 5, after being bombed out of their hiding places by the Kenya Defense Force (KDF), armed bandits assaulted a police-military base in the North Rift.
Abdirisack Jaldesa, the county commissioner for Baringo, verified the bandit assault in Seretion village, Mochongoi division of Baringo South Constituency, in broad daylight during a press conference a few days ago.
Thugs attacked a police officer while transporting more than 200 head of livestock to Corcoran Hill.
On Thursday, March 16, an explosive detonated in their hiding places, revealing the Military’s retaliation. Military aircraft reportedly dropped bombs on the bandits’ lairs in Kalemngorok, according to locals.
Conflict between rival communities over diminishing water supplies for raising cattle and other livestock preceded the development.
The government was earlier urged by the mayor and members of parliament to permit the KDF to assume control of the police officers tasked with putting an end to the fighting in the region; many of them have since left the troubled areas.
The group claimed that despite facing intense fighting that resulted in the deaths of soldiers, the cops did little to end the clashes.
On March 1, Home Affairs Minister Kithure Kindiki testified before the Senate Committee on Crime, which was presided over by Marsabit MP Mohammed Chute, and charged several North Rift officials with encouraging piracy.
He added that more soldiers would be sent and that long-term security measures would be put in place to safeguard the area.
