On March 8, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) asked that Azimio leader Raila Odinga reveal the purported Ksh15 billion that some of his allies allegedly stole in the months preceding the August 2022 General Election.
The party’s Secretary-General, Cleophas Malala, encouraged the anti-graft agencies to swiftly launch investigations in response to the revelations made by Controller of Budget Mary Nyakang’o and identify all the leaders participating in the inquiry.
The ruling party also wants an audit of every capital undertaking made by the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Azimio, led by Raila Odinga, has planned protests for tomorrow; however, before they do so, they must come clean about where the money went. They must also show Kenyans where they have hidden the maize and when it will be released.
“Kenyans are not succumbing to the continuous theatrics (kipindi) designed to divert their attention away from the truth about the all-time loot that has ruined the country,” the statement read in part.
While praising Nyakang’o for the revelations, SG Malala urged other government officials to come out if they had been pressured to engage in any more transactions during the Uhuru administration.
“Raila and his friend must accept responsibility for their actions and repay the money they stole. We also urge Kenyans not to be duped and used by selfish leaders to further their narrow egoistic interests “He noted.
Malala asserted that both tax evaders and leaders who conceal money in offshore accounts should be the subject of the investigations. Malala added that all politicians who engaged in looting public funds should face the full force of the law.
