Residents of Mumero village in Meru county were affected by an unusual incident after a 76-year-old man dug up the body of his late wife to sell the piece of land where his wife was buried.

According to information published by Kenya News, the old man suffered from a desire for money driven by hunger which gave him the idea of auctioning a piece of land.

But his wife’s grave became a big hurdle because no buyer was ready to own that piece of land and so the old man got the idea that the alternative was to move the grave so that he could sell the land.

Robert Marangu asked for help from the villagers to facilitate removal of his wife’s body from the grave to a different site for another burial.

His wife was died in 2021. This was a shocking and unusual incident in the region as the residents were in disbelief after they heard the news about it.

The area Chief Lucy Mutwiri confirmed the incident and said that it is an incident that is unusual.

“It is an unusual thing that has ever happened in my area and that is why when my residents informed me about what happened, I visited the scene and found that the grave has been moved from its original location.” confirmed the chief.

He did it by the help of his grand daughter and some other neighbours to move the grave.

The Criminal Investigation Officer (DCI) Buuri sub-county Joseph Wambua said that the suspects were arrested and investigations are ongoing.
