The Ward Development Fund was deemed illegal by the Controller of Budget on Friday. He also asked MCAs to follow their mandates and refrain from interfering with the development projects that are carried out in their wards. Through ward community projects, according to Dr Margaret Nyakang’o, the executive can guarantee a fair distribution of development.
In response to Dr Nyakang’o’s recommendation, MCAs declared they will henceforth uphold their three constitutional obligations of representation, oversight, and legislation.
The disagreements between the governor and MCAs were effectively resolved, according to Assembly Speaker Ayub Bundi, following the meeting with Dr Nyakang’o.
“She is in charge of choosing projects for the entire county, according to the governor. We now want to advise Meru residents to contact the governor if there is a bad road or if they require financial assistance, Mr Bundi said. The MCAs no longer have any authority to choose development projects.”
He claimed that while MCAs were aware of their duties from the start, they were eager to learn how much funding will be given to each ward for growth.
“We will keep off,” he continued, “and let the people deal with them directly. The governor indicated she will be obtaining information from ward managers.”
Jim Muchui, the majority whip, stated that if protests are calling for the government to advance development, MCAs will join the crowd. Because the governor is now in charge of development, Mr Muchui advised his electorate to disregard the manifesto he had offered them. “We will be with the people whenever they urge the executive for development,” he added.
Governor Mwangaza’s commitments would be upheld, according to Minority Leader Mwenda Ithilien, who stated they will now concentrate on their mandate.
