Those who previously enjoyed governmental protection appear to be on the receiving end of William Ruto’s administration. Several cases implicating Ruto’s supporters have been dropped, while those involving his opponents have been reopened.

Reports have surfaced that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has called Jubilee vice chairman David Murathe, COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli, and former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo for questioning in connection with an Sh200 million land controversy in Nairobi.

Atwoli is alleged to have obtained the funds from a farm linked to Jirongo.

The money is alleged to have come from Nairobi county as compensation for land the farm claimed in the Mukuru slums. After conducting an investigation, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission discovered that the property in question belonged to a primary school and dispensary.

Murathe, on the other side, is being looked into for his role in the KEMSA multi-billion scandal that shook the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.
