Paul Otieno Imbaya, a reggae artist from Kenya, performed under the alias Mighty King Kong. He was born in the Ugenya of the Siaya District.
He was totally wheelchair-dependent due to a severe episode of polio he experienced as a child. At the conclusion of Standard Six, he left Ambira Primary School following the death of his father. He moved to Kisumu, where he began begging on the streets and lived there.
1993 saw his move to Nairobi. Thanks to DJ Stone, a local DJ he had met in Kisumu, he was given permission to perform once a week at bars in Nairobi.
On Christmas Day 2007, he succumbed to poisoning at the age of 34. (as attributed in the local newspapers). He was brought to Nairobi’s Kenyatta National Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
Above all, he was a devoted supporter of Raila Odinga’s ODM political party, who vowed to put him forward for election to the next parliament. He was seen wearing an orange attire in his final days as a clear sign of his allegiance to the party.
