Kirinyaga gubernatorial race was a hotly contested one pitting the current governor Anne Waiguru and women representative purity Ngirici.

Up until yesterday night, it was difficult to tell the winner given the nature of the competition which was very fierce.

Nevertheless, because gubernatorial race is just won by a simple majority votes, the IEBC on Friday announced the results sending the incumbent governor’s followers into jubilation.

According to the results declared by the independent electoral and boundaries commission, Waiguru got 113,088 followed by Ngirici who came in second with 105, 677 votes.

After being declared the winner Waiguru thanked her supporters and husband whom she described as a core Pilar in her political ambitions.

“I want to thank the people of Kirinyaga because of the confidence that you have shown in me. Despite everything we went through they kept their faith in us and we managed to get this seat,” Waiguru said.

The results were then reported by various media stations with KTN digital taking the earliest opportunity to announce.

Nevertheless, it seems there was a typo in reporting whereby the media put Waiguru’s votes at 103 088 against the loser Ngirici’s correct 105 677 votes.

The post Elicited mixed reactions from netizens with some accusing the media of having wanted her to lose the election.

Bertegan: You wanted her to lose. Imagine, you still give her 103,088 votes. This isn’t typo, it is where your emotions lie.

Orientsl pearl: Waiguru got 103,088 votes to Ngirici’s 105,677? Then Ngirici should have been declared the winner!
