A Nairobi woman is celebrating a milestone for the woman who helped raise her child, after her househelp graduated with a Diploma in Food and Beverage Management.

Beryl Onzere paid Rozy’s college fees and says the achievement is a fitting reward for years of devotion to her family. Beryl told TUKO.co.ke that Rozy has been part of her household from the very beginning.

She said she was a new mother with little knowledge of caring for a newborn, and Rozy guided her through those difficult early days. According to Beryl, Rozy has looked after her daughter since the day she was born.

“She helped me raise my daughter from day one, at a time when I was completely clueless about motherhood, especially caring for a newborn,” Beryl said.

She credited Rozy’s patience, dedication and care for her daughter’s strong foundation and excellent English-speaking skills.

The idea of returning to school came from Beryl’s own achievement. After she graduated with a Master’s degree in 2024, Rozy told her that watching the ceremony had inspired her to chase her own academic dreams. Beryl said the revelation touched her deeply because she had not known her success had motivated someone close to her.

Rozy enrolled at Kaimosi Friends National Polytechnic in 2024, and Beryl took on the responsibility of paying her fees. The CDF office in Sabatia and Rozy’s family also contributed financially, helping her complete the course.

Beryl said she was moved to realise that, without intending to, she had encouraged someone else to pursue her dreams. For Rozy, the graduation marks the end of a journey that began with a decision to follow her employer’s example. For Beryl, it is a chance to publicly honour someone whose contribution to her family has been invaluable.
