Kawir Mwangaza

According to remarks made on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has questioned the political loyalty of former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi, alleging that he maintains connections with President William Ruto while presenting himself as an opposition supporter ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Mwangaza criticised Linturi over his alleged association with competing political camps, claiming that his political activities raised questions about his commitment to the opposition. Her remarks have added to the ongoing debate surrounding political alignments as leaders prepare for the next electoral contest.

In her statement, Mwangaza accused the former Cabinet Secretary of engaging in political double-dealing by allegedly maintaining contact with the President while associating with opposition figures.

“Linturi ni msaliti. Kwa Kasongo usiku kuchukua pesa, opposition mchana kujifanya ni wantam,” Mwangaza said, accusing him of receiving money from Ruto while presenting himself as an opposition supporter during the day.

However, the allegation that Linturi receives money from the President has not been independently established based on the information available.

Mwangaza also revisited the controversy surrounding the fake fertiliser scandal, referring to Linturi as “Mr Fake Fertiliser” while raising further questions about his political conduct and previous tenure in government.

She challenged the former Meru Senator to clarify his position, arguing that his alleged connections with rival political groups had created uncertainty about his political direction.

Linturi, who is reportedly interested in contesting the Meru gubernatorial seat in 2027, has previously rejected suggestions that he intends to leave the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) and return to Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

On Monday, October 12, 2026, Linturi responded to claims by Kamukunji parliamentary aspirant Alinur Mohamed, who had alleged that the former Cabinet Secretary was planning to rejoin UDA.

Dismissing the claims as propaganda, Linturi maintained that his political commitment remained unchanged.

“Alinur, this country doesn’t have a shortage of daydreamers. Continue waiting. Our resolve to liberate this country is on autopilot. Nothing can change our cause. Not even your propaganda,” he stated.

Linturi has also publicly demonstrated his association with DCP by wearing the party’s merchandise during a meeting with elders at his home in Meru.

His appearance in the party’s colours followed speculation about his political future and possible changes in his affiliations.

Mwangaza’s latest accusations have renewed attention on Linturi’s political position as Kenya’s political landscape evolves ahead of the 2027 elections. Whether he responds directly to her latest claims remains to be seen.
