Didi

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is widely known for his political career and outspoken views on national issues. However, behind the politician is his wife, Didi Wamukoya, a lawyer and wildlife conservation expert who has built an impressive career in environmental justice and wildlife law enforcement.

Didi and Sifuna reportedly met while studying at the University of Nairobi. Although Sifuna has previously shared that he spent much of his university life attending classes and socialising with friends, he eventually won the heart of his former classmate, who had initially turned down his advances.

The couple officially became husband and wife in 2015 after Sifuna paid her dowry. They have since been blessed with a daughter, keeping much of their family life away from the public spotlight.

In past remarks, Sifuna has openly praised his wife for her academic achievements and upbringing, describing her as more educated than he is. He has also credited her background with shaping her character and outlook on life.

According to Sifuna, Didi was raised in Loresho, Nairobi, where her father served as a Member of Parliament.

Didi is the daughter of the late Joseph Wamukoya, a prominent politician who served as the Member of Parliament for Matungu Constituency between 1997 and 2002. He also served as an assistant minister in the Ministry of Lands and Settlement during the administration of former President Daniel arap Moi.

Beyond her family background, Didi has established herself professionally in the legal and conservation sectors. She holds degrees in law and environmental studies from the University of Nairobi and was admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 2007.

Her career has also involved specialised training in investigating wildlife crimes, working with law enforcement agencies to combat illegal activities targeting wildlife.

Didi reportedly spent seven years at the Kenya Wildlife Service, where she served as head of prosecution. She later took on a regional leadership role as director of wildlife law enforcement in Africa at the African Wildlife Foundation.

In addition to her legal and conservation work, Didi is an author who has written about natural resources and environmental justice in Kenya.

Her professional achievements demonstrate that she has built an identity beyond being the wife of a prominent politician, combining legal expertise, environmental advocacy and wildlife conservation.
