Care givers

Caregivers seeking employment abroad in 2026 have opportunities in several countries across Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East, with demand driven partly by ageing populations and shortages of care workers.

Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Norway, Switzerland, Ireland, New Zealand, Japan and the United Arab Emirates are among the destinations highlighted for people interested in elderly care, disability support and home-based assistance.

However, available positions, qualifications, salaries and immigration requirements vary by country and employer.

Reported salary figures show that Switzerland offers annual earnings of CHF 50,000 to CHF 75,000, equivalent to approximately KSh 8 million to KSh 12 million based on the supplied exchange rates.

In Australia, caregivers may earn between AUD 55,000 and AUD 75,000 annually, translating to about KSh 4.73 million to KSh 6.45 million.

Norway’s reported annual salaries range from NOK 420,000 to NOK 520,000, while Canadian care workers may earn CAD 32,000 to CAD 55,000.

In the United Kingdom, the reported range is GBP 20,000 to GBP 30,000 per year. Germany’s figures stand at EUR 28,000 to EUR 40,000, while the UAE’s range is AED 30,000 to AED 50,000.

These figures are indicative rather than guaranteed offers. Actual earnings depend on qualifications, experience, location, working hours and the specific role.

Immigration pathways also differ. Germany has work visa options for eligible foreign care workers, while some occupations in New Zealand may qualify for a residence pathway after applicants meet specified employment and eligibility conditions.

For instance, eligible care-sector workers in New Zealand may need at least 24 months of full-time work in an approved role within the 30 months before applying for residence.

Prospective applicants should confirm current visa requirements and whether their qualifications are recognised before accepting an offer.

They should also verify employers and recruitment agencies carefully, avoid paying unverified fees and check whether the advertised job genuinely permits foreign workers to be employed.

Although overseas caregiving can offer career opportunities, applicants should compare expected earnings with living costs, taxes and other expenses before making a decision.
