Raila Odinga’s longtime bodyguard, Maurice Ogeta, has made a public appearance at the memorial event marking the first anniversary of the former prime minister’s death in Bondo, Siaya County.
Ogeta was among those who attended the gathering on Thursday, October 15, 2026, as family members, political leaders and supporters came together to honour Raila’s life and legacy.
He attracted attention after stepping out in a black Kaunda suit, maintaining a simple and formal look befitting the solemn occasion.
One of the notable moments captured at the event showed Ogeta kneeling as he spoke to Raila’s widow, Mama Ida Odinga.
The interaction offered a glimpse of the personal connections surrounding the anniversary gathering.
Ogeta was a familiar figure during Raila’s public engagements, having served as part of the security team that accompanied the veteran politician on numerous occasions.
His presence at the memorial added another personal dimension to the gathering, where many attendees reflected on their memories of late opposition leader.
Meanwhile, Ida shared an emotional message reflecting on the pain of losing her husband a year ago.
In a post accompanying the commemorations, she wrote: “One year later, it is still painful and unbearable. But today we reminisce and cherish the wonderful times and memories.”
Her words captured the grief that continues to accompany the anniversary, even as the family and supporters celebrate Raila’s life and achievements.
Raila died on October 15, 2025, while receiving medical treatment in India. His passing marked the end of a decades-long political journey that significantly shaped Kenya’s democratic history.
