Mama Ida Odinga has revealed that ODM leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga is receiving treatment in hospital after falling ill.
Speaking on Wednesday, October 7, during the handover and dedication of the late Raila Odinga’s mausoleum in Bondo, Mama Ida apologised on behalf of Oburu, who was unable to attend the ceremony.
She said Oburu was unwell and asked Kenyans to continue praying for his recovery.
“Allow me to convey apologies from my senior brother-in-law, Dr Oburu Oginga, who is unfortunately unable to be with us today because he is unwell,” Mama Ida said.
She added that she hoped the Siaya Senator would recover and return to the public by October 15, when the family will mark the first anniversary of Raila’s death.
Mama Ida also thanked President William Ruto for honouring Raila’s memory by participating in the mausoleum handover ceremony.
She described Ruto as one of Raila’s long-standing friends and recalled his support for the former Prime Minister during the disputed 2007 General Election.
The update came a day after Oburu’s office dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the veteran politician had died.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 6, the Office of the ODM Party Leader described the reports as false and malicious, saying Oburu was alive, safe and recovering.
The office urged the public to disregard the reports concerning the health of the senior politician.
