Obado aid

When the Milimani High Court delivered its verdict on July 23, 2026, it marked the latest blow in a series of tragedies that had quietly reshaped the life of Caspal Obiero, one of the three men convicted in the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.

Obiero, who served as a county clerk and close aide to former Migori Governor Okoth Obado, was found guilty alongside his former boss and a third co-accused, Michael Oyamo.

Justice Cecilia Githua ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, finding that the evidence sufficiently linked all three men to the killing, which took place between September 3 and 4, 2018.

Long before the verdict, Obiero’s life had begun to unravel. As investigations deepened, he was drawn into corruption-related proceedings that led to the freezing of a significant portion of his assets, wiping out much of what he had worked to build.

Then came April 3, 2024, a day that would define his family’s grief far beyond any courtroom. His wife, Trizza Obiero, and his mother, Patricia Atieno Obiero, were both killed in a road accident on the same day. The timing of the double loss is almost impossible to comprehend.

By the time the conviction was handed down, his children had already endured years of compounded sorrow. They buried their mother and grandmother within the same painful period, and they now face the future without their father in any meaningful way.

Such heavy losses in quick succession fall hardest on children, who must try to rebuild a sense of stability amid circumstances they never chose.

The Sharon Otieno murder case gripped Kenya for years, drawing intense public attention because of Obado’s political standing and the circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death.

For Obiero, a figure at the edge of that public drama, the personal cost has been immense in ways the court proceedings could never fully capture.

Meanwhile, the court denied Obado bond after declaring him guilty.
