Bloody Victim

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested 23-year-old Walter Kipkoech in connection with the brutal murder of 18-year-old Form Four student Joy Wangui in Molo, Nakuru County.

In a statement on Tuesday, October 7, 2026, the DCI said Kipkoech was tracked down to his hideout in Kuresoi North Sub-County on Monday, October 6, after fleeing the crime scene.

He had been on the run for several days following the gruesome incident.

The suspect is accused of killing Joy Wangui, a student at Molo Secondary School, in what police have described as a case of femicide fueled by jealousy and obsessive love.

According to investigations, Kipkoech stormed Joy’s family home armed with an axe, a panga, and two knives, with a clear intention to kill her after accusing her of cheating on him.

Police reports indicate that Joy was alone in the house at the time of the attack.

Her younger brother had briefly stepped out to a nearby shop.

When he returned, he found his sister lying lifeless in a pool of blood in a shocking scene.

In a chilling detail, investigators revealed that Kipkoech beheaded the victim and used her blood to write a message on the wall that read: “I love you, Joy, but never cheat. I’m sorry.”

The body was moved to Molo Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending post-mortem.

Kipkoech is currently detained at Molo Police Station.

He is expected to be arraigned in court to face murder charges contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code, which carries a death sentence upon conviction.

The DCI has condemned the rising cases of femicide and urged the youth to seek guidance and counseling instead of resorting to violence when resolving relationship disputes.
