Aspiring Kileleshwa Ward MCA Bob Omamo has proposed a possible Edwin Sifuna and Kalonzo Musyoka ticket for the 2027 presidential election.
Omamo believes the Opposition could benefit from a leadership arrangement similar to the political partnership between former United States President Barack Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden.
Speaking in an interview with The Kenya Times, Omamo argued that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna should be considered for the Opposition’s presidential flagbearer position.
He proposed Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as Sifuna’s potential running mate, saying the combination could present a strong challenge to President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
According to Omamo, Sifuna has the leadership qualities and political appeal needed to lead the Opposition into the presidential contest.
He also believes Kalonzo’s experience in national politics could complement Sifuna’s leadership and strengthen the proposed ticket.
Omamo pointed to the Obama-Biden partnership as an example of how leaders with different political strengths can work together to build a formidable campaign.
Obama selected Biden as his running mate in the 2008 United States presidential election. The Democratic ticket went on to defeat Republican candidate John McCain and served together from 2009 to 2017.
Omamo’s proposal comes as political parties and Opposition leaders intensify preparations for the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna has increasingly featured in discussions surrounding the Opposition’s possible presidential line-up, while Kalonzo remains one of the experienced figures seeking to influence the direction of the Opposition ahead of the polls.
Whether the proposed Sifuna-Kalonzo partnership will materialise remains uncertain, as Opposition parties and leaders are expected to negotiate alliances and agree on their preferred presidential candidate before the 2027 election.
