Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has responded to General Muhoozi Kainerugaba after the Ugandan military chief publicly expressed support for President William Ruto’s re-election bid ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election.
Amisi, in a message shared on Facebook, appeared to challenge Muhoozi’s intervention in Kenya’s political affairs, insisting that the country’s leadership will ultimately be determined by Kenyan voters.
“You are used to intimidating your kinsmen back home, but Kenya is different. Kenyans shall elect a new president,” Amisi said.
The remarks came shortly after Muhoozi publicly backed Ruto for another term and said National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula would support the President’s re-election campaign. Muhoozi referred to Wetang’ula as his “Mutume”, a term used to mean messenger or emissary.
Amisi’s response has added another layer to the growing political conversation surrounding foreign involvement in Kenya’s 2027 contest. His Facebook post has attracted attention as politicians continue to position themselves ahead of the next presidential election.
The Saboti legislator has increasingly spoken about opposition politics and the need for voters to have a meaningful role in choosing presidential candidates. In August, Amisi warned that excluding Edwin Sifuna from the presidential ballot could trigger voter apathy among some young voters.
He has also been vocal about building a political movement focused on young people, national unity and economic issues.
With the 2027 election approaching, political exchanges between leaders from Kenya and neighbouring countries are likely to continue attracting public attention.
For now, Amisi’s latest remarks have shifted the spotlight back to the question of who should determine Kenya’s political leadership, with the MP insisting that the final decision belongs to Kenyan voters.
