Comedian Oliver Otieno, better known as YY, is preparing for a nationwide tour that will take him to government development projects across Kenya.
YY announced the plan on Tuesday, September 29, while visiting an affordable housing development in Milimani, Vihiga County.
The comedian said his visits will not be restricted to projects that have already been completed. He plans to document developments that are still under construction as well as projects whose implementation has stalled.
His announcement comes with the Vihiga housing project serving as one of the first developments he has chosen to showcase.
“I will be going round the country showcasing projects that are complete,” YY said.
He indicated that the tour would take him beyond simply highlighting successful projects. According to YY, developments at different stages will be examined so that the public can get a clearer picture of what is happening at each site.
“The same way we showcase projects, zenye zimesimama? It is the same way we are going to see projects that are complete, projects that are happening, and projects that are done,” he said.
YY said the idea is to give Kenyans an opportunity to see projects physically rather than depend entirely on descriptions of their progress.
“So I will be moving around the country to show us projects that are actually happening. Leo tutajua kama ni kaongo ama ni kakweli,” he added.
The Vihiga development comprises 220 housing units, according to the information presented about the project.
The homes include one-, two- and three-bedroom units, alongside studio apartments.
By choosing to include completed, ongoing and stalled developments in the planned tour, YY is positioning the project around what he describes as a look at the situation on the ground.
The comedian has previously used his public platform to comment on political and social issues, but his latest announcement puts government development projects at the centre of his next series of public engagements.
