The family of the late Captain Alex Oluka has received a Sh300,000 donation from the Director of the Kenya School of Flying (KSF), intended to go towards constructing a house for the young pilot’s parents, in a gesture that has brought some comfort during an otherwise painful season.Sharing the update, the family expressed deep gratitude to the entire KSF fraternity for standing with them through what has been a difficult period, describing the support as heartfelt and timely.
Alongside the cash donation, the family also received a beautifully framed tribute dedicated to Oluka, crafted by KSF as a lasting reminder of his life, dreams and the legacy he leaves behind.
Captain Oluka died on September 18 after the light aircraft he was piloting during an advanced training session crashed near Kipeto in Kajiado West Sub-County.
A student aboard the aircraft also lost his life in accident. Preliminary police investigations suggested that poor visibility caused by heavy morning mist may have contributed to the crash, which occurred as the pilot attempted an emergency landing.
Oluka, hailing from Kolait Village in Teso North Constituency, Busia County, had only recently graduated from the Kenya School of Flying on August 22, barely weeks before the fatal crash.
Described by Teso North MP Oku Kaunya as the constituency’s pioneer pilot, Oluka had impressed instructors so much during training that he was retained at the school as a flight instructor.
His death has left his community mourning a young man whose success in aviation had been seen as a source of pride and inspiration for the region.
