Kenyan filmmaker and comedian Abel Mutua has shared a touching account of how a long lost high school friend came to his rescue during one of the most difficult financial periods in his career.
The celebrated storyteller opened up about the experience while reflecting on the challenges he faced when his production company, Philit Productions, was dealing with a serious debt crisis.
Abel revealed that the company had accumulated debts amounting to approximately Ksh 5 million, leaving him in a desperate situation as he searched for ways to settle the financial obligations.
With limited options available, the former Tahidi High actor decided to contact some of his former schoolmates from Lenana School. Among the people he reached out to was a friend he had not spoken to for roughly 13 years.
Despite the long period of silence between them, the friend did not dismiss Abel’s request for help. Instead, he listened to his predicament and offered him financial assistance.
To Abel’s surprise, the former classmate sent him Ksh 1 million, a gesture that left him deeply moved and grateful.
The filmmaker admitted that the situation was particularly striking because he had not maintained regular communication with the friend for many years. In fact, he humorously recalled that he could hardly remember the man’s appearance clearly at the time.
Nevertheless, the friend was willing to assist him when he needed support the most.
