Uganda’s CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has spoken about jailed opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye, recalling how Besigye once dismissed him as a young man with little influence.

Muhoozi said the situation has now changed, with Besigye currently in prison facing treason charges.

According to Muhoozi, Besigye used to refer to him as a boy and did not see him as someone who could have much influence. But Muhoozi says the balance of power has now shifted.

“Besigye used to call me a boy. Okay. Now the boy has power over him. He is going nowhere,” he stated.

Muhoozi went further, saying Besigye will not be released as long as he is still alive.

The General also rejected the idea that he personally captured Besigye. He instead attributed the arrest to what he described as divine intervention after Besigye allegedly plotted against his father, President Yoweri Museveni

“I did not capture Besigye. It was God Himself. He did it because Besigye insulted His Mighty Army and plotted to kill God’s Anointed King. He will not escape his punishment.”

Besigye has been in detention as his legal troubles continue, making the remarks from Muhoozi particularly notable.

The relationship between Besigye and the Museveni family has been tense for years, with the veteran opposition politician becoming one of President Museveni’s most outspoken political challengers.

Muhoozi’s latest remarks now put his personal position on Besigye’s future in clear terms. He says the former presidential candidate is going nowhere.
