A woman from Machakos County has revealed how she allegedly lost more than KSh300,000 after sending money to a man she believed would become her husband, only to later discover that he was already married.
The woman, who was working in the Gulf, said she met Erick Munyalo in 2023.She claimed he was a General Service Unit officer.
Their friendship eventually became romantic, and despite living in different countries, they remained in regular contact through phone calls and online chats.
According to her account, Munyalo made her believe he was serious about marriage.
She said he later began asking for financial assistance, citing personal expenses, emergencies, work-related needs and business activities.
Trusting him, she sent money several times through M-Pesa.
She said he repeatedly promised to repay her, but the requests continued for more than two years.
By the time she stopped sending money, she claimed she had given him more than KSh300,000.
The woman said Munyalo never returned the money.
Instead, she alleged that he kept offering different explanations and promising to settle the debt later.
Her disappointment deepened when she came across WhatsApp conversations that she believed belonged to him.She claimed the chats showed that he was also communicating romantically with other women.
She further alleged that the messages suggested more than 10 women had sent him money in similar circumstances without receiving it back.
These claims have not been independently confirmed.
The woman said she was later shocked to learn that Munyalo had a wife and a child.
She maintained that he had presented himself as a single man who genuinely wanted to marry her.
Her account has since sparked reactions online, with many people urging others to exercise caution when sending money to romantic partners, especially in long-distance relationships.
She has advised people to verify a partner’s identity and family situation before offering financial support.
The allegations remain unverified, and Munyalo has not been given an opportunity to respond to the claims in the report.
