A family in Getare-Emenwa, Masige East Ward, Nyamache Sub-County, has demolished the house where the Virgin Mary was allegedly seen, citing cracks caused by huge crowds visiting the homestead.
The family has now barred visitors from accessing the compound.
Local residents said the decision to pull down the structure followed days of mounting pressure at the remote homestead, where large numbers of people gathered after reports circulated that a religious image resembling the Virgin Mary had appeared inside a mud-brick kitchen.
Authorities and community leaders were also drawn into the matter as excitement spread, with some visitors arriving in large groups to view what they believed was a miracle, while others questioned whether the claim had been exaggerated.
According to accounts from within the area, thousands of people descended on a modest homestead in Getare Village, Emenwa sub-location, Bobasi Constituency, after an image believed to resemble the Virgin Mary was discovered on the interior wall of the mud-brick kitchen.
The family later said the constant movement, crowding, and repeated attempts by visitors to get closer to the wall contributed to the physical damage of the already fragile building.
Mary Onsombi, a Catholic farmer, is reported to have been the first to notice the formation on Friday, September 4, while tending to her fireplace.
Residents say she observed what initially appeared to be an irregular marking on the wall, prompting her to assume it might have been the result of smoke or a shadow left by firewood.
When she tried to smear out the supposed stain, the outline reportedly did not disappear.
