Drama unfolded in Kampala on Saturday after armed men reportedly stormed Radio Simba and took away political analyst Charles Rwomushana while he was appearing on a live radio programme.
Rwomushana, a former intelligence operative and well-known political commentator, was participating in Radio Simba’s Saturday programme, Gasimbagane ne Bannamawulire, when the incident happened.
According to reports, the men arrived at the station in vehicles before entering the premises. Some were reportedly dressed in civilian clothes, while others were said to be wearing military uniforms.
The men proceeded to the studios and took Rwomushana away. Video footage circulating online appears to show several armed men dragging him from the station as other people watched. One of the men was reportedly carrying a pistol, while another appeared to have a larger firearm.
The incident has raised questions among journalists, political leaders and members of the public, particularly because Rwomushana was taken from a radio station while participating in a live political discussion.
