Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy has named his provisional squad for Kenya’s opening matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The South African tactician has included several experienced players alongside emerging talents as Kenya prepares for a challenging Group D campaign against Eritrea, Guinea and South Africa.
Among the notable names in the provisional squad are captain Michael Olunga, who returns to the national team setup, and Joseph Okumu, who is also back in contention following injury setbacks.
McCarthy has also handed opportunities to promising youngsters, including Aldrine Kibet, while several players based abroad have been included.

Byrne Omondi, Faruk Shikhalo, Ian Otieno, Brian Bwire and Caleb Kramer.
Defenders
Daniel Ayembe, Deon Woodman, Michael Kibagwe, Rooney Onyango, Paul Ochuoga, Hannif Wesonga, Manzur Okwaro, Stanley Wilson, Abud Omar, Joseph Okumu, Amos Wanjala and Frank Odhiambo.
Midfielders
Zak Vyner, Timothy Ouma, Kevin Wangaya, Chris Erambo, Duke Abuya, Marvin Nabwire, Austin Odhiambo, Zech Obiero, Will Lenkuape and Aldrine Kibet.
Forwards
Mohammed Bajaber, Sharif Musa, Ben Stanley, Job Ochieng, Adam Wilson, Javan Ochieng, Louis Millard, Michael Olunga, Ryan Ogam, Micah Obiero and Lawrence Okoth.
Kenya was drawn in Group D alongside South Africa, Guinea and Eritrea. The Stars are automatically qualified for the 2027 AFCON as co-hosts with Uganda and Tanzania, but will participate in the qualifiers as part of the competition’s qualification process.
Kenya’s campaign is scheduled to begin with a home match against Eritrea on September 26, before travelling to face Guinea on October 1.
McCarthy will now use the provisional list to prepare a final squad for the crucial fixtures as he continues rebuilding the national team ahead of the 2027 continental tournament.
