Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has held talks with a delegation from Luo Nyanza as his Democratic Change Party (DCP) continues efforts to strengthen its grassroots presence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The delegation, led by Ken Babu, brought together representatives from Homa Bay, Kisumu, Siaya and Migori counties. The meeting was held at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro Residence shortly before his departure for a series of engagements in the United States.
DCP’s Engagement With Luo Nyanza
According to Babu, the discussions focused largely on the role and position of Luo Nyanza within the DCP, which is led by Gachagua.
The meeting provided an opportunity for representatives from the region to discuss how Luo Nyanza could fit into the party’s wider organisational structure and contribute to its activities at the grassroots.
Babu described the discussions as candid and constructive, saying they were aimed at strengthening unity, inclusivity and grassroots participation within the party.
The engagement comes as political parties intensify efforts to build regional networks and expand their support bases ahead of the 2027 polls.
Gachagua Expected in Luo Nyanza
The delegation and Gachagua also began preparations for an anticipated visit by the former deputy president to Luo Nyanza following his return from the United States.
Although no specific date was announced, the planned visit is expected to provide an opportunity for Gachagua to engage directly with leaders and residents from the region.
The meeting signals continued efforts by Gachagua and the DCP to establish a presence in Luo Nyanza and other parts of the Lake region as the party seeks to broaden its national reach.
With political alignments ahead of the 2027 General Election continuing to take shape, Gachagua’s engagement with the Luo Nyanza delegation could form part of a wider strategy to build alliances and strengthen the DCP’s support across different regions of the country.
