The Kenyan Government has today unveiled a set of requirements that all vehicles ferrying learners back to school must meet ahead of the coveted school reopening season.
Addressing the public via the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on the 19th day of August 2026, the Kenyan Government has made it mandatory for all vehicles transporting learners back to school to be roadworthy and compliant with safety regulations.
The Kenyan Government has divulged that all transport vehicles ferrying school-going children to their respective institutions of learning must have a valid inspection certificate, road service license, and valid insurance.
The Kenyan Government has further intimated that all vehicles carrying learners should have an operational speed limiter that is transmitting data to the NTSA Intelligent Road Safety Management System (IRSMS)
The Kenyan Government has underscored that vehicles transporting learners must also be serviced, and parts including brakes, tires, lights, and side mirrors must all be functional.
The Kenyan Government has articulated that drivers of transport vehicles ferrying school-going children back to school must have a valid driving license, and the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) badges must also be valid.
The Kenyan Government has underscored that drivers and conductors should ensure that school children have their seatbelts on and that the vehicles do not have excess passengers.
The Kenyan Government has further intimated that no child or body parts should hang outside the vehicle and that drivers and conductors must report if a child is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
